Samship B.V. ("Samship", "we", "us" or "our") works with suppliers and partners around the world. This Supplier Code of Conduct sets out the minimum standards we expect everyone who supplies goods or services to Samship to uphold. We expect our suppliers to apply equivalent standards within their own supply chains.
1. Purpose and scope
This Code applies to all suppliers, vendors, contractors and other business partners that provide goods or services to Samship, including their employees and subcontractors.
Meeting this Code is a condition of doing business with us. Where local law sets a higher standard than this Code, the higher standard applies; where this Code sets a higher standard than local law, we expect suppliers to follow this Code.
2. Legal compliance
Suppliers must comply with all applicable laws, regulations and standards in the countries in which they operate, including those relating to labour, health and safety, the environment, anti-corruption, trade and data protection.
Suppliers must hold and maintain the permits, licences and registrations required to conduct their business lawfully.
3. Labour and human rights
Suppliers must treat their workers with dignity and respect. Forced, bonded, indentured or involuntary labour of any kind is prohibited, and no person may be subject to human trafficking.
Child labour is prohibited. Suppliers must not employ anyone below the minimum legal working age, and must not assign young workers to hazardous work.
Suppliers must not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, gender, religion, age, disability, nationality, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic, and must respect workers' lawful rights to freedom of association.
4. Wages, benefits and working hours
Suppliers must pay at least the legally mandated minimum wage, provide all legally required benefits, and pay workers in a timely manner.
Working hours must comply with applicable law, including limits on regular and overtime hours and entitlement to rest periods and leave.
5. Health and safety
Suppliers must provide a safe and healthy working environment, identify and control workplace hazards, and provide appropriate training and protective equipment.
Where housing or transport is provided to workers, it must be clean, safe and meet applicable standards.
6. Environment
Suppliers must operate in an environmentally responsible manner, comply with applicable environmental laws, and obtain and keep current the required environmental permits.
We expect suppliers to manage waste, emissions and the use of resources responsibly and to work to reduce their environmental impact over time.
7. Business integrity
Suppliers must conduct their business ethically and must not engage in bribery, corruption, extortion or any other improper advantage. Gifts and hospitality must never be used to influence business decisions improperly.
Suppliers must compete fairly, respect intellectual property rights, protect confidential information, and disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest.
8. Quality and product safety
Suppliers must deliver goods and services that meet the agreed specifications and all applicable quality and safety standards, and must maintain records that allow products to be traced where required.
9. Monitoring and compliance
We may ask suppliers to demonstrate their compliance with this Code, and reserve the right to assess compliance through reasonable means. Suppliers must promptly address any shortcomings that are identified.
We may suspend or end our relationship with any supplier that fails to meet this Code or refuses to work towards compliance.
10. Raising concerns
We encourage anyone with knowledge of a breach of this Code to report it to us. Concerns can be raised at legal@samship.com, and will be handled confidentially. We will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
